The Foundation was created in 2004 to commemorate the Jeanie Johnston which was built at Quebec in 1847 by the Scottish shipwright John Munn. The replica ship visited Montreal in 2003. The original Jeanie Johnston carried Irish Immigrants to Canada in the 1850’s without loss of life. The Foundation is a registered Canadian charity that promotes studies of Canada in relation to literacy, immigration, history, and active citizenship.
